Traffic Chaos in Delhi and Noida Ahead of Farmers’ Protest

Traffic congestion is severely affecting parts of Delhi and Noida. This disruption comes as the city prepares for a major farmers’ protest scheduled for Monday. The protest is organized by the Bhartiya Kisan Parishad (BKP) along with other farmer groups from at least 20 districts. They plan to march towards the Parliament complex to demand compensation and benefits under new agricultural laws.

Protest Details

The ‘Delhi Chalo’ march is expected to attract a large crowd. Farmers want to highlight their concerns regarding the newly enacted agricultural laws. They are seeking compensation and benefits that they believe are due to them. The protest could lead to significant delays for commuters in the Delhi-NCR region. Roads are congested due to heavy police barricading and security measures.

Traffic Disruptions

Traffic has been significantly impacted. Visuals from various locations show long lines of vehicles caught in gridlock. A video shared by ANI shows cars barely moving at the Chilla border. The DND (Delhi-Noida Direct) flyway is also a hotspot for traffic jams, with vehicles at a standstill across multiple lanes.

In response to the anticipated chaos, Noida Police issued a traffic advisory on Sunday. They warned the public about potential road diversions and restrictions. The advisory aims to help commuters navigate the expected congestion.

Alternate Routes

For those looking to avoid the traffic chaos, the advisory provides several alternate routes:

  • Chilla Border to Greater Noida: Exit via Sector 14-A flyover, Golchakkar Chowk, Sandeep Paper Mill Chowk, and Jhunjhupura Chowk.
  • DND Border to Delhi: Use the Film City flyover, Sector-18, and the Elevated Road.
  • Kalindi Border to Delhi: Recommended route includes Mahamaya flyover and Sector-37.
  • Greater Noida to Delhi: Suggested paths are via the Charkha roundabout, Kalindi Kunj, or the Hajipur underpass via Sector-51 and Model Town.
  • Yamuna Expressway Traffic: Drivers should exit at Jewar toll and proceed through Khurja and Jahangirpur.
  • Peripheral Expressway Traffic: Use Dadri or Dasna exits instead of the Sirsa exit.

Increased Security Measures

Security has been intensified throughout the National Capital Region (NCR). Police are conducting vehicle inspections at checkpoints to maintain law and order. Authorities are preparing for significant disruptions as protestors plan to march towards Parliament.

Farmers’ Key Demands

The farmers have outlined several key issues that they hope to address during the protest. They are requesting:

  1. Guaranteed compensation and benefits under the new farm laws.
  1. Increased compensation for land acquisition based on the old law.
  1. A 10% allocation of plots for farmers.
  1. Four times the market rate for compensation.
  1. Employment and rehabilitation benefits for the children of landless farmers.
  1. Proper settlement of populated areas affected by land acquisition after January 1, 2014.

These demands reflect the farmers’ broader concerns regarding their livelihoods under the current agricultural framework.

Leader’s Statement

Sukhbir Khalifa, a leader of the Bhartiya Kisan Parishad, spoke about the upcoming march. He confirmed that it will begin at noon from the Maha Maya flyover in Noida. The group plans to reach the Parliament complex by the same afternoon to present their demands for justice.

Ongoing Struggles of Farmers

This protest is part of a prolonged effort by farmers to bring attention to the challenges they face under the current agricultural laws. They have been advocating for reforms since their initial protests began in February. Farmers feel that their concerns have not been adequately addressed, and they are determined to continue their struggle for better outcomes.

As the protest approaches, commuters in the area are advised to stay informed about traffic conditions. The situation is fluid, and those planning to travel should keep the advisory in mind. Authorities will monitor the protest closely to ensure safety and order during the event.
