Noida International Airport, also known as Jewar Airport, has reached an important milestone. On Monday, an Airbus A320 successfully landed at the airport. The flight originated from Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI). This landing marked the first validation test at the new airport. The airport is scheduled to open in April 2025. Located along the Yamuna Expressway in Greater Noida, it will serve as the second major airport in the National Capital Region (NCR), alongside IGI.

The first phase of the airport’s construction includes a single terminal building and one runway. This phase will allow the airport to handle up to 12 million passengers each year. Once all phases of the project are complete, the airport is expected to accommodate up to 70 million passengers annually. The validation flight was operated by IndiGo Airlines. It was designed to test several operational aspects of the airport. After the flight, the Noida International Airport team will compile documentation. They will then submit this paperwork to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) for aerodrome certification. This step is vital for ensuring that the airport meets all necessary regulatory standards.

Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu attended the validation flight. He expressed his enthusiasm about the airport’s progress and its potential impact. Naidu referred to Noida International Airport as a significant addition to India’s aviation sector.

“Today marks a very important day as we have successfully conducted the validation flight at Noida International Airport,” he stated. “The NIA is set to become one of the most prestigious airports in the country. It will serve the Delhi NCR and Western Uttar Pradesh regions.”

Private and Public Partnership

The airport’s construction is overseen by Yamuna International Airport Private Limited. This company is a subsidiary of the Swiss firm Zurich International Airport AG. The project is being developed under a public-private partnership model in collaboration with the Uttar Pradesh government. This approach aims to ensure efficient construction and operations while also engaging the community.
