Farmers Protest in Greater Noida: Tensions Rise as United Kisan Morcha Holds Large Demonstration

In Greater Noida, tensions escalated as 10 farmer organizations led by the United Kisan Morcha organized a large protest at the Yamuna Authority. Farmers arrived in tractor trolleys and vehicles. The atmosphere was lively, with participants dancing to music and chanting slogans to express their dissatisfaction with the authorities. Women showed great support during the Mahapanchayat, highlighting the unity of the movement.

Farmers’ leaders criticized the authorities for ignoring their concerns and demands. This protest followed a sit-in at the Greater Noida Authority on November 25, where farmers protested local officials’ negligence. Today, the farmers intensified their efforts by surrounding the Yamuna Authority, showing their determination to seek change.

The protest is expected to continue. Farmers announced that they will remain at the Yamuna Authority until December 1. A significant march to Delhi is planned for December 2, during a Parliament session, to further amplify their demands. Farmer leader Rupesh Verma noted that tens of thousands of farmers from over 10 organizations have joined the movement.

Verma explained that the current phase of the protest, called the ‘Mahapadav,’ started at the Greater Noida Authority and will now take place at the Yamuna Authority. The farmers aim to ensure their grievances are taken seriously in their march to the national capital.

Heavy police presence is noted at the protest site, reflecting the tense situation. Farmers have issued an ultimatum: meet their demands or expect continued protests.

Farmers’ Key Demands:

During the Mahapanchayat, farmers outlined their five main demands:

  1. Fair Compensation for Land Affected Under the Old Land Acquisition Law

Farmers want 10 percent plots and a 64.7% increase in compensation for those affected by earlier land acquisitions.

  1. Compensation for Land Acquired Post-2014

For lands acquired after January 1, 2014, farmers demand four times the market rate as compensation, plus a 20 percent share of the acquired land as plots.

  1. Employment and Rehabilitation for Farmers’ Children and Landless Farmers

They seek job opportunities and rehabilitation benefits for children of all landholders and landless farmers.

  1. Issuance of Government Orders on Issues Raised by the High Power Committee

Farmers call for official government orders addressing the issues approved by the High Power Committee.

  1. Proper Disposal of Populated Areas

Farmers insist on sustainable management of areas affected by land acquisition.

The protest at the Yamuna Authority indicates farmers are ready for a prolonged struggle. Their demands grow louder, and the government’s response will be closely watched. The farmers are committed to their cause and prepared for long-term agitation until their demands are met.
